The biggies

Achievement in Film Editing
The Departed

That was some great editing. Actually, I don’t know what that entails. How much of the end result is due to editing, and how much is in the directing? I really did like the way the scenes were pieced together in that movie. It really suited the edginess of the material.

I always like the memorial segment in the show. So many great artists. We forget that this was the year they passed away.

Best Actress (I mean “Best Actress in a Leading Role”)
Helen Mirren (The Queen)—big surprise! I don’t think it’s fair that all the other movies used actresses, while this one used the actual Queen of England. Wait, I’m now being told she’s not…(Saturday Night Live, you led me astray again!)

Why is it always Actress, then Actor? Saving the best for last? Then reverse it!

Best Actor
Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland)—he’s also a great singer. (Again, I heard this on SNL.) Another movie that’s near the top of my rental queue on Netflix (well, when it gets released).

Best directing…I liked the banter between the presenters. Oh, George Lucas.
Crossing my fingers for Martin!!
And the winner is…
Martin Scorcese!!! Finally! Hmmm…The Departed as “best picture”?

And now the moment we’ve all been waiting for…what reed thread I will be using next. Hah! Just kidding…

Best Picture
The Departed!! (“the first movie [Martin Scorcese] has ever done with a plot”—haha) And I saw it! (Just in time!)

Thanks, Patty. You may be the only one reading this as I've gone along… :) It’s been fun!

I've not seen The Departed ... I'm wondering if I can handle it, as I'm wimpy and get scared easily. Hmmm. What do you think?

But I'm happy for Scorcese. Bout time! (I wasn't surprised ... seemed as if it was his time, but he did look nervous!)

I felt bad for O'Toole, just because I think I love the guy, messed up as I've heard his life has been. But I understand Whitaker was fabulous in his role.

So many movies, so little time. Ah well. I do have two weeks off now, so maybe I'll get to some of these. We'll see!

It's been great fun watching "with" you! :-)
