Reverting to my 12-year old self

When my mom comes to visit, I turn into a child. This is particularly true when it comes to shopping. I have playing chops; she has shopping chops. That woman can spend all day on her feet, going through every single aisle of a Target before saying, "let's move on to the Walmart." My legs are so stiff today. I think we went to Bed, Bath & Beyond, Old Navy (you can now picture the strip mall, same in every strip mall across the U.S.), Best Buy, DSM Shoes, Cheesecake Factory (to eat, not to shop), THEN Target, THEN Walmart. Oh my goodness. Not that I'm particularly complaining, but two things happen:

1) Even though she spends much more money than me (and it's mostly stuff for Dave and I), I end up spending through osmosis. How did I spend $100 yesterday??? I don't spend that much in a month!

2) Do you remember shopping trips with your mom when you were 10 or 12 years old? Maybe your mother was the kind of person to get in and out of a store. Not mine. By the half-way mark, I would literally be hanging off the grocery cart, dragging my legs behind me. Jump ahead sixteen years: that was me yesterday.

I love my mom. I love her visits. It's very easy to get caught up in material things, although she's just trying to provide us with nice things. I'm very appreciative (really, Mom, I am!!)...but I love her more than the things she buys.

Well, I don't want to get too far into this.

Today is the 10th anniversary of my 18th birthday. I love my birthday. I got breakfast in bed and a long phone call from my dad. I don't even have to play tonight's CRSO concert! Day off! It's 12:45pm and I'm still in my jammies! Hmmm...maybe I shouldn't waste such a great day in jammies. I'm up, I'm up!

(Sorry ... didn't mean to turn that second post into something about me. I wasn't thinking. I hear that happens as we age!)

I do hope you've had a wonderful birthday celebration, and that the Birthday Fairies brought you a magnificent batch of reeds.

... they DO do that, don't they? ;-)
