Lock 'n Load

Of course I'm referring to my MP3 player. When I got this a year ago, I never thought I'd need "all 6 gigs"...well, I have about 300 MB of space left, and that will likely be gone by the end of the day. I guess my new book on CD won't fit for my trip this week. I've also deleted most of my pop/non-Classical music from it, as I have a very important test this Thursday, and I want to soak in as much unfamiliar music as possible before then.

Right now I'm listening to Stravinksy's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, written in 1931. I didn't know this work, but I'll make a point to get to know it more in the not-so-distant future. It's great! Oh, Napster, you are a wonder. This recording: Hilary Hahn. While listening (and on my study break), I did a search and found her website and her online journal for her fans. It's very interesting to read thoughts of a touring musician. I think I'll put it as a link to the right. Check it out if you have a minute.

I feel like I'm training for a marathon...except in the complete reverse. My butt has not left this chair for the past two days except on my 15-minute breaks. I try to make a point of getting outside and going for a quick walk as often as possible. Today is a particularly difficult day to stay inside and study. It's perfect weather outside--sunny; 70 degrees in the sun; slight breeze.

OK, back to 20th Century Compositional Techniques...

Well, I wish you ALL the best! I'm in awe of all you smart folk; I only have a BM, and I don't believe I really earned that properly. Such is life. (I'm still happy with my life ... I just feel "less than".)

GO FOR IT! :-)

Thanks! but don't feel "less than". Just remember that life is about learning, and you don't need to be in school to do that! (Thank goodness, because after this, I'm DONE!)

I hope that doesn't sound trivial; I do know what you mean.
Thanks for the encouragement! I need it sometimes!

Naw, doesn't sound trivial. And I know you're right. But, at the same time, my goofy degree is ... well ... goofy!

Mostly I'm thankful to be a surviving musician. Really!

And yes, I continue to learn. Your blog is one place where I get to do that, too! :-)
