Jon Stewart

We watched the awards tonight. A few surprises...what am I saying? I haven't actually seen any of those films. Someday though! Hey, I'm still working my through past nominations. I have "Million Dollar Baby" coming on Netflix this week. I heard "Crash" got more consistant reviews than "Brokeback Mountain", which you either loved or thought was overrated.

Dave and I thought Jon Stewart did a fabulous job hosting tonight. MSNBC has a story about the show--specifically, Stewart's hosting. The jokes didn't go over well, but those of us who are Daily Show fans, and maybe a little more likely to laugh at stars than the stars would themselves, appreciated the humour.

Any thoughts?

I thought Jon Stewart was brilliant :) I thought he did a great job! I haven't seen Crash, but from what I've heard, if you can make it through the first half of the movie (very hard to watch some of it) the second half makes it all worth it.

I saw Brokeback Mountain, and since it was filmed in Kananaskis, I felt kind of connected to the scenery, having lived so close to it for most of my life. I really thought the acting was superb, especially Michelle Williams. For all of you who might be squeamish about the subject matter - there's really not a lot of guy-on-guy action . . . so if you can suck it up, it's really worth seeing, if for nothing but the scenery.

Reese Witherspoon and Phillip Seymour Hoffman were my top picks, although I didn't see all of the other performances in the leading actor/actress category. Both 'Walk the Line' and 'Capote' were great movies. Now I've got a nice long list of movies that I want to see . . . should keep me out of trouble for a while . . . because you know, it's hard out here for a pimp ;)

I really enjoyed Stewart. Maybe the stars just can't relax enough to "get" him. And of course some just don't like the guy.

I do wonder about the anxiety of waiting to hear if one has won an Oscar ... I know how I would be at an event like that; I sure wouldn't be listening all that carefully to the host, and I'd probably be a basket case.

But anyway, I liked Stewart. And I liked Crash. It's an uncomfortable movie, but well worth the watch. I didn't see Brokeback (I heard it was a movie with no hope and I usually can't handle those). Saw Walk the Line and loved it.
